A New Cell Line Development Database for Biomanufacturing π¬π
"As much as 60 percent of the physical inputs to the global economy could, in principle, be produced biologically." This quote from a 2020 McKinsey report (see here) perfectly encapsulates the immense potential within the growing bioeconomy.
Over the past six months, I've engaged with numerous biomanufacturing companies harnessing biology to create a diverse range of consumer products. π±π§΄ Despite the variety of these products, success in biomanufacturing consistently hinges on the fundamental tools: cell lines, media, and bioprocesses. Recognizing their critical importance, I've dedicated time to compiling comprehensive databases of all the B2B companies operating in these areas.
Today, I'm excited to share the third of these databases (see here) π, focusing on commercial cell lines and companies offering cell line development (CLD) services. Iβve mentioned before that I am bullish on the opportunity that exists within the cell-line and CLD spaces, and I remain strongly committed to this view.
Everything starts with the cell. π§¬
Media and bioprocess can be used to optimise efficiency and yield, but the ceiling of performance is set by the cell itself. Companies that can develop a reproducible process to develop cell lines from multiple species and multiple tissues hold (one of) the keys to unlocking the true potential of the biomanufacturing castle. π°π
Currently, my database features 22 companies, but I believe there are many (many!) more out there. If your company is involved in commercial cell line development and isn't listed yet, please let me know. π©
