🧬 The Biomanufacturing Revolution is here!

πŸš€For those following my journey, you know I'm passionate about the bio-based manufacturing sector. But what exactly is biomanufacturing, and why should you care?

Biomanufacturing harnesses the most advanced manufacturing facility in the world - biology - to create products, utilizing:

- Cell cultivation
- Precision fermentation
- Molecular farming
- Cell-free processes

While food (cultivated meat, and fermented dairy proteins) has been the poster child, biomanufacturing is rapidly expanding into:
🧡 Textiles
♻️ Plastic alternatives
🎨 Pigments
🌺 Fragrances
πŸ’„ Cosmetics
πŸ§ͺ Chemical precursors (for resins, fertilizers, lubricants)

πŸ“Š The biomanufacturing numbers speak volumes about the immense opportunity in this space:
- McKinsey reports up to 60% of consumer goods could have bio-based alternatives
- The (non-clinical) biomanufacturing sector is already estimated at $20B+

So, what opportunities does this present? Here are some of the broad take-homes I've learned from working in this space:

For B2B suppliers:
πŸ”¬ Expand your horizons! Your cell lines, media formulations, and equipment can serve a diverse range of B2C companies.

For scientists and researchers:
πŸ”€ Your skills are highly transferable. Think broad! Worked in cultivated meat? You’d be a fantastic fit for making biomaterials for ski’s!

For governments:
🏭 Lead the world in advanced manufacturing. Support companies with access to feedstock, scale-up facilities, and top talent. This is a no-brainer, and we are already seeing massive public funding to support this growing industry. But money is not enough, policy changes that support biomanufacturing are key.

For aspiring founders:
πŸ’‘ If you can dream it, you can likely biomanufacture it! From puffer jackets to chocolate, the possibilities are endless (seriously, ski's can be biomanufactured).

The biomanufacturing revolution is here. Are you ready to be part of it?
